Members of the Indian community in Northern Italy,
and
Friends of India,
I warmly welcome you all today to celebrate 79th Independence Day of India. On behalf of the Government of India and the Consulate General of India in Milan, I extend warm greetings and wishes to you and your family members on this august occasion.
This auspicious moment calls upon us to reflect on our achievements since the independence on 15 August 1947. Our vibrant democracy, thriving economy, and notable achievements across sectors including space, information technology, education, public health, defense, and agriculture are testament to our collective efforts and steely resolve to make our motherland proud among the comity of nations. We must redouble our efforts to become ‘Viksit Bharat’ by 2047.
Friends,
India-Italy bilateral relations have evolved into a multifaceted and mutually beneficial cooperation. Both countries share a high degree of convergence in the political, economic and strategic interests. Aware of the unparalleled potential of the India-Italy Strategic partnership, Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi and Prime Minister of Italy Ms. Giorgia Meloni during their meeting at the G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on 18 November 2024 have decided to give it further impetus through focused, time bound initiatives and announced joint plan of strategic action for the period 2025-2029.
The Indian community plays a crucial role in strengthening this partnership with Italy. It gives me immense satisfaction to convey that hard work and the contribution of the Indian community are highly appreciated by our Italian friends. Furthermore, the expanding Indian student community will serve as a vital conduit for sharing Indian values and cultural heritage with Italian youth.
Friends,
I am glad to inform you that the Consulate has organized six consular camps in various cities of northern Italy including Bolzano, Padova, Verona, Brescia, and Milan in the past one year for the benefit of the Indian community. As in the previous year, we plan to organize these camps starting in September. In addition, we organize an Open House with the Consul General once every fortnight to address grievances and receive suggestions aimed at improving our consular services. Let me assure you that we are ready to work along with you to make this Consulate as a ‘Home away from Home’ for all the Indian community.
Let me now read excerpts from the address of the Hon’ble President of India to the Nation.
I once again wish you and your families a happy Independence Day
Thank you
Jai Hind
