On 08 July 2026, Politecnico di Milano (PoliMi), along with IIT Madras, organized an inception meeting at its premises in Milan for the research-cum-demonstration project titled ‘Bharat-EU: Biobased Renewable Hydrogen from Agro/Forestry/Biogenic Residues through Advanced Technologies’. The project is jointly funded by India and the European Union and involves key researchers, institutions and industries in EU and India.

In his address, Consul General Mr. Lavanya Kumar emphasized the importance of finding affordable and replicable solutions for solid waste management in urban areas. Representatives from the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Government of India, the European Commission, and professors from PoliMi and IIT Madras shared an overview of the project and its objectives.

This initiative is part of the India- EU Trade and Technology Council (TTC)'s efforts to promote the use of green and clean technologies. The collaborative effort aims to advance technologies that convert biogenic waste into renewable hydrogen, supporting both India's National Green Hydrogen Mission and Europe's sustainability goals.
