Renunciation of Indian Citizenship and Surrender/Cancellation of Indian Passport

NOTICE

Subject: Renunciation of Indian Citizenship and Surrender/Cancellation of Indian Passport

The Government of India has introduced a new system for processing the application for ‘Renunciation of Indian Citizenship and Surrender/Cancellation of Indian Passport’ on acquiring foreign citizenship. The new procedure would be as follows:

1. All the applicants are required to submit/register their applications on the portal of Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Government of India - https://indiancitizenshiponline.nic.in/Renounce by making a declaration in the Form XXII for renunciation of their Indian Citizenship.

2. After submission/registration of application on MHA’s portal, the applicants are required to submit the following at the Consulate General of India, Milan for further processing of renunciation of their Indian Citizenship and Surrender/Cancellation of their Indian Passport. 

(i) Duly filled-in Application Form for Surrender/Cancellation of Indian Passport along with the Passport;

(ii) Finally submitted/registered application for renunciation of Indian Citizenship on MHA’s portal;

(iii) Copy of the Italian Passport and the Carta d’ Identita;

(iv) Online Payment Receipt (Payment to be made at least 3 days in advance from the date of submission of the application at the Consulate)

(v) Fee for Renunciation of Indian nationality and surrender of Indian passport will be Euros 94(91+2+1) and Euros 114(91+20+2+1) in respect of cases where foreign nationality was obtained before 1.6.2010

3. It may kindly be noted that with the introduction of the new system for processing of the application for ‘Renunciation of Indian Citizenship and Surrender/Cancellation of their Indian Passport’, the processing time of the application from the date of submission of the application at the Consulate, would be a minimum of 30 days subject to receiving of clearances from various Departments of Government of India.
